Beginning Art

Grade: 7th or 8th

Requirements: Please submit Elective Selection Online Form by 5/28/21. This course is designed as an introduction to art.  No prior experience is needed. It is recommended that the student have an interest in art and want to learn how to create art in many types of media including:  drawing, painting, pastels, collage, paper Mache and more.  We cover the basic Elements of Art and Design Principles and how they are used in the creative process.  A brief introduction to art history is covered across multiple genres. This is a rigorous class and students must be committed to making a serious effort in their work.

Advanced Art
Teacher: Ms. Abrahams
Course Length: Full year
Grade: 7th or 8th

Requirements: Please submit Elective Selection Online Form by 5/28/21. Previous experience/instruction in visual art. Students in Advanced Art should have a strong background in using the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design as well as a moderate skill in artistic expression.  They should be able to work independently on rigorous individual and group projects including everything from large murals to small items that may be sold for various fundraising events. Students should be prepared to commit to work outside of class time and participation in a number of art competitions and public art displays.

Photography/Visual Arts

Course Length: Semester
Grade: 7th or 8th

Requirements: Please submit Elective Selection Online Form by 5/28/21. This course is designed to provide an understanding of how photo composition uses and relates to artistic elements (line, color, value, shape, form, space, and texture) and design principles (balance, contrast, emphasis, rhythm & movement, pattern, unity, variety, and proportion) through visual expression.  Students learn digital imaging and manipulation tools through Photoshop to enhance images.  Students use digital cameras for their own photographs to create visual expressions of their world and how beauty is created through visual imagery.
