Back To School Questions & Answers
Updates as of 8/27/21
What materials do students need for the first day of
school?
Students need to bring their school-issued Chromebook. Sac City
Unified is now a 1 to 1 district meaning that every student
should be provided with a school issued Chromebook. We are
requiring that every student does check out a Chromebook and
bring it to school with them everyday, charged and ready to go.
We do not want students bringing personal devices to campus.
If your student has not checked out a school issued
Chromebook, you can do so Mon – Wed this upcoming week
between 8 – and 3 at the front office. If we have these
all checked out prior to the start of school, that will make
things far more smooth. Students will find out what materials
they need for each class the first few days of school.
When does school start?
The first day of school this year is Thursday, September
2nd. Every Thursday is an early release day so students
will attend school on the first day from 8:00 AM – 1:09 PM. For
students that ride the city bus, pick up time will be at 1:30
every Thursday. On Friday, September 3rd, students will attend a
normal schedule day and will be at school from 8:00 AM – 2:09 PM.
Will there be orientation for students?
We were hopeful that we would be able to hold an in-person
student orientation this year. Unfortunately, we will not be able
to do so as guidance from Sac County Public Health is directing
us to hold events virtually whenever possible. Principal Haley
will be composing a comprehensive video presentation that will
cover all orientation-related topics. The video will be completed
and posted to the school website by Tuesday, August 31st at the
very latest. Families will receive an email with the link to the
video.
Will students have a chance to tour
campus?
We realize that there are many students that have not had the
opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Cal Campus and
this can contribute to increase anxiety as we start school. To
help with this, we will be opening up our campus on Monday and
Tuesday, August 30th and 31st for students and 1 parent/guardian
to walk the campus. We will provide a school map open entry and
the tours will be self-guided. More information on these
opportunities will come in the near future.
Do students have to wear masks this
year?
In accordance with recommendations from the CDC and SCPH, all
SCUSD schools will require everyone on campus to wear a mask
while indoors. Masks can be removed when students are outdoors
and maintaining proper social distancing. Any person refusing to
wear a mask, and wear it properly, will not be permitted to be on
campus. As we learned last year, safety and mask guidelines will
likely be adjusted throughout the year. Principal Haley will keep
families updated on any changes in expectations and policies as
they arise.
When will students have access to their
schedules?
Assistant Principal Ms. Walker is currently working on the
schedules for our students. Schedules will be available by
Friday, August 27th at the latest, but we hope
to have them available much sooner. Principal Haley will send out
a communication when they are completed and ready to be viewed in
Infinite Campus.
Is there any paperwork my student needs to have before
school starts?
SCUSD is holding a series of free immunization clinics for
students. Please see our website (Calmiddle.org) or call Health
Services at 916-643-9412 for more information. It is critical
that every student is up to date on their immunizations as they
will not be permitted to attend school until this is all taken
care of. We currently have over 130 students that are out of
compliance. If you have questions about the status of your
student’s immunizations, please contact our attendance tech
