Students will gain exposure to many different genres of theatre: including, but not limited to, Shakespeare, Commedia dell ‘arte, puppetry/masks, classical and modern comedy, spoken word, pantomime, farce, and musical theater. Students will also have opportunities to watch live performances and participate in competitions (Middle Stage Fest) to further develop their performance skills. This course will cover the following skills: improvisation and technique, text and character analysis, line/music memorization and interpretation, movement and dance, stage combat, technical theatre and design, direction and stage management, etiquette and professionalism, social/emotional development, self-expression and FUN!

Students will also have field trip opportunities to attend local shows like “Hamilton” and meet professionals working in theatre careers today. We may also be able to attend the Ashland, Oregon Shakespeare Festival in June pending fundraising efforts and district approval (stay tuned).

Fall Musical: Students do not have to be enrolled in Drama in order to audition and participate in the after school musical. Students will work directly with teaching artists from Sacramento Theatre Company (STC) to stage a full-scale production. They will also have  an opportunity to attend the incredible Junior Theatre Festival in February 2022 to compete and learn with students from all over the world…right here in our very own backyard (Sacramento)…www.juniortheatrefestival.org
